Valkeisenranta Ni Cu
Discovered in 2000 by the Geological Survey of Finland, Valkeisenranta lies 1 km SE of the old Kotalahti nickel mine, from which 12 Mt of nickel ore averaging 0.7%Ni, 0.3% Cu was extracted between 1957 and 1987. The nickel ore is open up and down plunge and is presently defined between 100-400 metres below surface.
Two main ore types:
- Net textured ore lies near the intrusive contact and totals 850,000 t @0.95% Ni, 0.38% Cu
- Disseminated ore is in the footwall to the net textured ore and totals 630,000 t @ 0.41% Ni, 0.17% Cu
- Total indicated resource of 1.54 Mt @ 0.71% Ni, 0.29% Cu
Current Status
- Drilling programme in Q1 2008 started to investigate near surface and down-plunge extensions to the mineralisation
- Downhole geophysics indicates good vertical continuity to at least 600 metres
- Exploration ramp planned to commence at end of Q2 2008
