Drilling has started on the Kuusamo gold properties
Posted on Tuesday April 20, 2004Following Belvedere’s Jan 22nd news release, Belvedere is pleased to give an update on its gold exploration properties in Finland.
Kuusamo
The spring drilling in the Kuusamo area of Northern Finland began on April 20th. A 1000m drilling programme is planned on the Kouvervaara, Ollinsuo and Säynäjävaara Iron Oxide Copper Gold (IOCG) type properties. This drilling will focus on identifying the structural controls to the known mineralization. In addition, a Time-Domain Electromagnetic ground geophysical survey (TEM) as well as a ground magnetic survey have commenced over the Kouvervaara property. These surveys will be used to help define the deeper down-plunge drill targets below the current shallow level of drilling. If successful, the TEM programme will be extended to cover the other properties.
Kopsangangas
Belvedere has completed an Induced Polarisation (IP), resistivity and magnetic ground geophysical survey over a 1 km strike of the western portion of the Kopsa intrusion. The survey was carried out and interpreted by the independent geophysical contractors JVX Ltd of Canada. Orientation lines over the central mineralized portions at the Kopsa gold copper intrusive related deposit showed excellent correspondence between chargeability anomalies and drilled mineralization. This confirms the results from historical surveys over the central and eastern part of the intrusion. This has allowed a much greater confidence in the
interpretation of the results into the un-drilled areas of the intrusion. The survey highlighted a 700×200 m area of the southern intrusive margin already identified as mineralized by surface percussion drilling. Two additional targets were identified in the panhandle zone, some 1100m west of the central mineralized zone. These zones are to be targeted by a diamond drill programme in May.
Antinoja
A total of 128 pits on a 200×100m grid have recently been completed over the two square kilometre claim area to expose and sample the bedrock. Prior to the pitting, Belvedere completed an IP geophysical survey. This IP survey showed several promising anomalies. In early May, when the assays are back from this pitting program, the IP survey will be re-examined inthe light of this assay information. The most promising targets will be drilled in mid May, following the completion of the drill program up at Kuuusamo.
