Belvedere Announces the Start of its Summer Drilling Program

Posted on Monday June 9, 2003

Following last month’s announcement private placement that raised C$ 903,000, Belvedere is pleased to announce it has commenced its summer field season. Work is being concentrated in two main areas.

Kopsankangas Property

Further drilling has begun on the Kopsankangas claim within the Kopsa intrusive related gold copper deposit. The drill holes are aimed to extend the higher grade gold copper mineralisation outlined in previous drilling, 300 metres northwards along the co-incident geophysical induced polarisation (“IP”) anomaly to the northern margin of the intrusion. A 1,000 metre diamond drill programme consisting of 10 shallow drill holes is planned. Two other strong IP anomalies within the Kopsa intrusion, previously un-drilled, are to be tested by drilling for near surface gold copper mineralization.
Follow up till sampling is planned in several areas of previously defined anomalous till and boulder geochemistry within the Kopsa/Vehka reservation area. The aim is to identify the presence of outcrops with Kopsa/Vehka style mineralisation.

Kuusamo Property

Further evaluation of old data from the Geological Survey of Finland (“GSF”) has confirmed the potential of the property as an Iron Oxide Copper Gold (“IOCG”) district. Re-logging and re-assaying for gold of old core from the Kouvervaaara, Ollinsuo and Saynajavaara gold, copper, cobalt occurrences has begun.
In the most extensively drilled occurrence at Kouvervaara only 30% of the mineralised core has been assayed for gold. Analysis of the recently obtained GSF data has revealed an error in the best intersection at the Kouvervaara property quoted in the GSF’s gold database. The previously quoted 25 metre intersection grading 4.5 g/t gold, is from Belvedere’s Saynajavaara occurrence 4 km NE of Kouvervaara. The best gold intersection from Kouvervaara is a 12 metre intersection grading 4.1 g/t gold. This revised information does not downgrade the gold potential of the Kouvervaara occurrence, but upgrades the Saynajavaara occurrence to a high priority exploration target. (All information is from past reports and has not independently verified by Belvedere)
IOCG targets often have a strong geophysical signature. Recently purchased low-level airborne geophysics is being evaluated in the Kuusamo area for suitable anomalies that have not yet been drilled.
